PROJECT: DIY grid board

TIME: ~1.5-3 hours

COST: ~$30-40

  • Mesh (I’d recommend this one from Bunnings, 600mm x 900mm with 50mm squares)
  • Wire or rope
  • Spray paint (in your favourite colour, I love black or white!)
  • Newspaper or drop sheet
  • Gloves
  • An open space

  1. Find an open space, and lay down your newspaper or drop sheet
  2. Use the wire or rope to hang your mesh from the roof, so that it’s upright hanging in the air
  3. Put your gloves on and shake your spray paint can (like a polaroid picture!)
  4. Spray the front side of your mesh with the spray paint (be sure to spray from approximately 20-80cm away from the mesh)
  5. Spray the back side of your mesh with the spray paint
  6. Wait approximately 1 hour for it to dry (test if it is still tacky in an inconspicuous place by lightly touching with your gloves)
  7. Wah-lah! You now have yourself a beautiful new grid board
  8. Pick up some new foil prints from the shop and start styling!
